Overcharged for YEARS

My husband and I purchased our home in 2016 & held Progressive Insurance well before that for auto coverage. We decided to use Progressive who uses Homesite & was quoted around $3,000 for homeowners insurance for the year.

As 1st time homebuyers we did not know this was an absurd amount of money. Several years go by and this year, 2022, we were speaking to a mortgage broker and happened to mention how much our premium is. She gasped and told us we were overpaying and should call in to be re-quoted. We did just that & ended up with a new quote of $1,800.

When we asked the rep the reason for such a price discrepancy, she told us that my husbands SSN was never entered on the policy and that makes quite the difference. We went YEARS overpaying by close to 50% due to this company's negligence. Had the original rep requested the information we could have saved thousands of dollars. I'm reaching out to Homesite to listen to their justification of these actions and I just spoke with a woman, Deb, who actually put the blame on myself and my husband stating that we should have shopped around if we didn't like the price.

Not only were we first time homebuyers with 0 clue about what premiums cost but we had already dealt with Progressive with our auto insurance and felt they were a reputable, honest company. We were mistaken.

Cannot reach customer service

I called to inquire about my Homesite policy at 7:45 a.m. EST. IVR indicated I had called outside of business hours and to go the website for information. After a pretty exhausting search for something so simple, I was not able to find the business hours to call and speak to a service rep. Seriously?

March 2019 claim was filed regarding my water heater broke and molded large sections of my garage bedroom bathroom and carpet. Homesite supposedly fixed it. Today i have someone look at the issue and the water heater they put in is now leaking do badly there is visible mildew on the walls and under the tile they layed down

First of all I didnt get a call from an adjuster for a good week or two and then Spector well Investagator took over the case name Emily Lord she asked me for some weird questions and I dont know anyway I passed out of course and then she said that she was going to give the final paper to my Adjustor and *** come up with a final payment number and it still be it but then radio silence I havent heard from them

Poor customer service

I bundled my homeowner policy with my auto for the savings. The policy was issued 2 weeks prior to the effective date and an inspection was conducted.

On the day the policy went into effect it had already been inspected and the results reviewed. I had some minor algae growth on the roof and some overhanging limbs on my detached garage. Very easy fixes for anyone. I received a cancellation notice (non-certified) that I was being cancelled for this and had 30 days to respond.

I completed their repairs, sent pictures and was notified the day after I cancelled that they would not reinstate coverage. I have called daily now that I am without coverage and have been told it's in underwriting for review. It's now been 9 days.

Just called again....sorry...nothing we can do. I work in the insurance industry, as an underwriter, and I would NEVER place business or recommend this company.

I have auto policies with Progressive and signed up for a new homeowners policy with their 3rd party partner Homesite to get a bundled insurance. The following issue was not resolved even as Progressive tried to be helpful and provided a specific number to call Homesite directly to request extension of policy cancellation due to Covid-19.

Progressive even apologized in an email for the bad experience outlined here but says they cannot control the actions or decisions of their third party partners. I even went beyond their repair order and had a complete new roof installed rather than repairing it before requesting an extension to finish the other more minor work due to work delays due to covid-19.

Please be aware if you are ordered to do any repairs after a new policy inspection, even major work such as a roof replacement, you will be only allowed 30 days with no exceptions or extensions for any reason to complete the work. Homesite rules with a heavy hand. I had a new roof installed, 1/2 of painting finished and a new porch under contract when covid-19 emergency occurred and was told there would be delays in getting work finished. I asked for only a 30 day extension for the policy to stay in force to complete work and was denied any extension and my policy was canceled that I had paid 2 months beyond the cancellation date. In an unprecedented time of a national health emergency when most companies are being compassionate and fair with customers this stands out as the worst customer service I've ever had.

Preferred solution: A written response for the actual reason I could not be granted a 30 day extension insured to finish repairs as my policy was paid during the Covid-19 public health emergency as other customers were granted extensions on cancellations for non payment.

Back in January of 2019 one of my dogs had bit my neighbor in the face. This was not a malicious act from my dog is was a matter of self defense and there is a long history of my neighbor harassing my dog.

In any case I filed a claim and the process was going smoothly until I found out from my neighbor that they offered him next to nothing for his medical bills and/or lost wages and pain and suffering. Not to mention that the claims person (which I don't know if it's the same person I have been dealing with) was extremely rude to my neighbor.

So as of recently I received notice that my policy has been terminated due to high risk. Which I pay into this high risk and yet they still terminated my coverage?

So now, my neighbor has obtained a lawyer to handle the rest of this claim. And I am struggling to find some other insurance carrier to cover my homeowners insurance.

If I can't find an insurance carrier to cover my home, my mortgage company will cover my home but nothing more with astronomical costs, which will put me out of my house because I will not be able to afford my home.

Homesite needs to have a class action lawsuit filed against them. After reading a lot of the complaints I am surprised they haven't been sued already.

You will not allow me to chose the date I want my payment made. Never heard of a company that would not allow this. I have had nothing but trouble with homesite!!!!!

You have to allow your customers to chose the date they want their payment made. I have never heard of a company that did this. I can see why people are complaining about homesite. Your customer service leaves alot to be desired!!!!!

I to was a sucker to listen to smooth talking sales guy to get a great deal when you bundle with auto . I told GEICO that this company is dishonest and are only there to sell and not help people. My policy was very high and had less coverage and a higher deductible with them then what I had. Why would I want that? BEWARE ! I was so glad to cancel them and get back with my other company. And when you call about this to them you'll get a cover up by the supvisior in charge of the sales person. COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME . They get F 's across the board
