Horrible insurance claim experience

Submitted a wind damage claim which was then farmed out to a third party adjustment company in Oklahoma who sent an inspector from Minnesota who spent 12 minutes inspecting the damage. I contracted with National General/Homesite Insurance in Pennsylvania. Attempted to contact 3rd party (Pacesetter Claims) assigned adjuster on numerous occasions only to discover she no longer worked there. I provided 3 estimates to repair the damage which totaled almost $10,000. The Pacesetter estimate from their Minnesota adjuster was $7200. Pacesetter told me they could not adjust the estimate and referred me to Homesite. Homesite told me I need to take my complaint up with a Pacesetter supervisor. I contracted with Homesite which has a duty to its insured to act in good faith. These companies are a ripoff and a waste of time.

Avoid insuring your home with homesite

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
We had a windstorm come through our area. All my neighbors and myself filed claims with our insurance companies. Out of a total of 9 qoutes total. 8600 was my lowest qoute. Homesite manipulated at every turn to send me the lowest check possible. Accordingly I had a deductable on my roof that was 1% of my home value (which was something I did not know) They evaluated my value to be 240,000, trust me it is not! They determined that to replace my roof would be $7200. They deprecated the value of my roof and sent me a check for 1490.00. None of my neighbors have the same insurance company, all have different ones. all recieved checks minus there deductable and no conversation about depreciation. I'm lucky because this was not a fire or total lost of my home. Only a roof! This companies is depreciation clause makes any claim subjective. Do not let them insure your home. I have read to many reviews since my situation with them. This company is a scam to take your money and to settle for pennies. The way all my neighbors were treated by their insurance companies compared to how I was treated by homesite insurance. Avoid this company! There is a reason there rates are the cheapist

Homesite

I needed to renew my homeowners policy, needed insurance and decided to bundle it with all my other policies using Progressive even though their quote was more expensive.. Paid in full for the year, they took my money and I let my other insurance lapse.. Over a month goes by and I get a letter in the mail where they stated they were not honoring my insurance policy and I was in fact not covered.. They still have my money, they sure as *** didn't include a check with that letter.. Now I am currently out over $1300 and now I have to shop for a homeowners policy and come up with more money.. They stated my roof is worn, buckling and in need of replacement.. I was just on that roof shoveling it off 2 weeks ago, there is nothing wrong with it.. I do have a skylight that started leaving this winter, I did cover the leaking area with flashing and it is no longer leaking and will be removing the skylight in it's entirety this spring, we still have snow on the ground and I've been delayed slightly.. They could have asked me about it? They could have given me the month to prove the work has been done? Also stated clutter around the garage.. Yup, scaffolding taken apart and stored against the side away from the road and 2 big blue recycling trash barrels, a canoe behind it, a small trailer for the lawn tractor next to it, and a log splitter behind that.. Clutter? seriously? I will never do business with homesite and I will be leaving progressive with my 6 vehicles and 2 motorcycles as soon as I get back from Florida, bad enough I got to deal with the homeowners *** a week before we leave..

the same thing happened to me. I recently purchase Homesite Homeowners hazard insurance, I paid in full - no lapse in coverage from my former insurance company - I bundled with my auto policy from Geico.

Thought everything was o.k. (note: never made a claim, never heard from them- just only that my mortgage insurance company paid them for the full year of coverage. A few months later, I get a call from Geico/ Homesite to let me know that they are canceling my policy due to a tree that needed trimming and some shingles that blew off in a recent wind storm. I only was given HOURS to make the repair- which is absurd - not even given 24 hours!

I did make the repairs they outlined, only to be told that Homesite never intended to insure my house due to its age, and the only way they would insure it, is if I bought a new roof - even though my roof does not need replacing. I had the issues taken care of professionally, by licensed contractors and businesses - I provided photos, and receipts of the repairs- to no avail. Homesite did not informed my lender nor myself that they decided not to cover me months after the fact, even though they were paid for the entire year - to date, I still have NOT been refunded for the service I paid for, not even a cent was ever refunded- Homesite still has my money, and now I have no insurance. This company is down right FRAUD!!!

I have yet to read one positive review- everything is horrible what people write about them- they take peoples money, and never provide a service. I was actually told they never planed on giving me insurance in the first place - but yet they had no problem taking my money for a service they did not provide.

Homesite Insurance - Claim Review

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Someone stole my trailer out of the office that my husband rents, my husband was working in New Orleans East because of the tornado that went through there. I had lended my carpet cleaner, my mop bucket and mop, and a vacuum to my husband, he had them on the trailer when they had stolen it. I called them homesite Insurance to make a claim, and I gave them the police report, I told them there was tools and a blow and dry to dry the house, and other tools, and I didn't have the exact list of what was on the trailer. Immediately the lady Pamela smart I talked to told me that those were work tools and that they weren't covered, I told her that I use those things in my home, she told me that I had said that they were work tools and that I was being recorded, and that if I was lying; I would be in serious problems. I told her that I had things that I used in my house and that I had lended him those things, I asked her "Are you my adjuster?" And she told me that I work for the company and I'm in charge of taking information, I asked her once more "Are you my adjuster?" And she said the same thing as before and a bunch of other things except answer my question. So I hung up and called again to speak to a supervisor, her supervisor answered my call; and I told her what had happened and how she had treated me. I asked her if the lady that I had talked to before was my adjuster and her supervisor said yes. I told her that I was very unhappy with the way that the adjuster had treated me and how she never answered my question, the supervisor told me that she was going to be in charge of my claim and that she was going to make sure I had good service. Later the Adjuster called me, sent me emails, asking all sorts of questions of the trailer and the things that were on the trailer. She the adjuster then called me, and said that the things that were on the trailer were commercial and the policy only covered $250 for commercial things. I told her that I bought those things for my house and that they weren't for commercial use, the ones that I had explained to her, she stuck with her argument and that she wasn't going to pay for those things, and she spoke to me in a very disrespectful matter and I told her; I'm no longer talking to you, I'm going to talk to your supervisor. She said that the supervisor revised the documents and that she agrees with her. I spoke to the supervisor, and she told me that the things were considered for commercial use, I told her that they may be for commercial use but I bought them for my house, and I even have a commercial use washer because they're more durable and much better quality. She stuck with her statement that they were for commercial use. Anyways, the first day I made the claim; I called to cancel my insurance policy because I didn't like the treatment they gave me when I called to make my claim. I found better coverage with State Farm, $2,500 for commercial for less than half the price of what homesite charges. Be very careful with this company, because they're very dishonest, and they only care about charging you money and when it comes to them paying, they do everything to not pay at all. All their adjusters are trained to treat you bad and give you bad service, all the comments that I've seen for this company are similar to what happened to me, they cause a lot of damage to the customers, the law should restrict them, but they receive support from them. That's why they keep being dishonest.

Was mislead and lied to

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

This company refuses to pay for any damages to our home. After a hail storm when most of our neighbors got new roofs, Homesite said we didn't have enough damage for them to pay (2700 deductable).

Now all of our shingles are blowing off our house and they refuse to pay because it doesn't reach our deductible and we should have fixed our roof after the hail storm. Both claims the adjuster was on our roof only about 15 minutes. The first guy came into my home and told us we should just not push the claim and maybe after the next storm we will have enough damage for Homesite to help us with our roof. Homesite now claims we are trying to combine damage amounts of both storms however a roofer who looked at it said there is at least $8000 worth of damage and he had to do patch jobs to keep it from leaking.

The kicker is this roof is only 5 years old and we get a new roof discount on our policy. So in five years our roof was totaled and Homesite says this is our fault.

My neighbors couldn't believe we didn't get a new roof after the first storm as all of our vehicles and roofs were damaged. Terrible shady company and I wish the worst for them since that is what they gave us.

We have a policy with homesite but not for long. Policy began at the top of the year and we experienced water damage 9 days later.

A guy by the name of Jason had the nerve to ask me why we have insurance with them? As if we were filing a fraudulent claim. I have yet to hear back from them. I went through geico and am going to complain to geico.

These people want to make money, but are not willing to pay out claims. Frauds.

Update: As of March 1rst I have cancelled my policy with Homesite. Sadly my new companies ratings are not much better but at least my premiums are lower so I am paying less for lower quality service than I was with these scam artists. It is the lesser of two evils.

Tornado, hail damage to home

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

A Tornado with wind and hail blew through our town and created much destruction. I called Homesite to place a claim as all of my front windows, garage, and fence was detroyed.

They gave me a claim number and inspector came out within five days. She was very professional and thorough. She told me it takes seven business days for her to submit report off damage to Homesite. The seven days ended three weeks ago and the "adjuster" I was assigned never got back to me.

I would only get her voice mail. After two weeks I called her supervisor and was informed she did not wotk there any more !! I asked him if anyone followed up on outstanding claims and he said He would get back to me. Apparently no one even bothered to check this persons in box or outstanding claims.

I still have not heard from him either and get his voice mail too!!. I have approximately $35,000.00 in damage with a $2500.00 deductible but have not heard a word. I was bundled by Progressive that attached my auto with my Home and Homsite handles my P&C. My auto damage was quickly and efficiently handled by Progressive and the adjuster handed me a check minus deductible right there!!

Great company but I question their decision to bundle their clients with Homesite. Unfortunatly it is a case of guilt by association as the neighbors and friends that I have in town in the same situation blame Progressive.

I don't think that's the case but due dilligence on Progressives part is in order when bundling their loyal customers to third rate company like Homesite. The next time I call Homesite for an update on my cliam, it will be my attorney doing the calling.

A company that sells both home and auto insurance won't want to partner with Progressive. A company that only sells through agents is also going to be a poor fit, since Progressive sells direct to consumer.

So Progressive needs to find a company that is a direct writer, and doesn't sell auto.

Unfortunately, Homesite is one of the few companies that fits both criteria.

Worst experience ever

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
This company overvalued the replacement cost of our home by sixty percent. I argued with them about it when we started the policy in 2008, but they claimed it was correct. I am in New Orleans and in the aftermath of Katrina, very few companies were writing here. So I went with it. This year they upped my premiums by $3000 and put a $25,000 wind/hail deductible on my policy. When I called them this year, they told me that they had made an error and actually my policy should have dropped $3000. They had been charging me sixty percent more than they should have for the whole period I have been insured with them. That works out to $30,000. They admit the error, but said I should have "caught" it at the beginning. Well, I did but they lied about it. This company truly has no integrity or customer service feeling at all. Stay away.

Filed a claim on Nov. 2nd 2014, still in investigation stage WTF??

I went threw ESurance to get a renters policy on my apartment with Homesite Insurance, I did this because I had had several break ins at my apartment in 2014, on Nov. 2nd 2014 I was broken into again, I have turned in all necessary documentation to Homesite Insurance, to date everything is done, but they are still "investigating" my claim, this has been going on since the beginning of Dec. 2014. but no one has been to y home, talked to me, or any of my neighbors about my break in, attached you will find Pictures of the damage done to my apartment, these pictures were taken by homesite after 2 days of arguing with them about why they should take pictures of the damage done to my apartment.

I would urge people NOT to use ESurance, or Homesite Insurance for ANY insurance needs, the money you save is not worth the hassles involved with getting a claim paid.

Homesite - Frauds and Thieves

Do not do business with these people. I repeat, do not do business with these people. First of all, it is really a bait and switch situation when you sign up for Renter's Insurance through Progressive. Any claims you have will be handled through the fly-by-night frauds at Homesite. They are horrible and will treat you like a liar and treat you like absolute dirt. I am dealing with an adjuster there who is a total nightmare, completely unprofessional and very rude and very pompous and condescending. I spoke with his supervisor and asked for a different adjuster which the supervisor promised to do, but never did. On October 17, my apartment flooded due to a broken toilet water line from the apartment upstairs. The first adjuster I spoke to was very, very nice and very helpful. She was suddenly switched off of my case because "there was a computer error and she was assigned too many cases". Huh? Is this not 2013? I then got the adjuster from ***, absolute ***. Today is 11/15. I have been nickel and dimed out of my reimbursements (I was told that since, according to their records, I refused - which I did not - to go into a hotel with a full kitchen, my nearly $700 in out of pocket food expenses will not be reimbursed. It is expensive in my major city to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner every day). Further, with regard to the food I just purchased before the flood and which was damaged and inedible due to the conditions in the apartment, I will not be reimbursed for that at all since it was according to this adjuster "could not have been damaged in the flood since it was in boxes". I said to him, "Would you or would you let your kids eat food which has been under these conditions for more than 2 weeks (there were dehumidifiers, plaster and mold on and around food on my countertops and on top of my refrigerator)?" I have photos of everything which I supplied to him. I had to send him an itemized list of all the food which was damaged, when and where I purchased it and how much I paid for it! Then was told at first (1) we can only reimburse you for any amount over what you normally spend in a week and (2) we are not responsible for the food inside of your refrigerator, which I was not able to eat because I was not living in my apartment due to the flood 2 weeks prior! Then the tune changed to "we cannot reimburse you for any of your food expenses" because according to jackleg adjuster, I refused the hotel with the full kitchen, which by the way is a roach motel. Again, I asked him, "would you want your family to stay there?" I have ALL of my receipts and I have no hesitation whatsoever to take these frauds to court. Then the fraud adjuster asked me today "have you paid your landlord." I told him no, the money was being put into an escrow account at which time rent will be paid upon settling on an amount and my return to the apartment. I was also told by this jackleg adjuster that the money I would normally spend for rent would need to be "given to the hotel upon checkout". I have never heard of that before. Homesite agreed to put me up in a hotel through the 21st of this month, so where does the rent money upon checkout come from??? The work in my unit has not been completed (will probably be another 2 weeks due to the extent of the damage and needed repairs), but I was told I need to be out of the hotel by 11/21... Where am I supposed to go? This is not my fault - I am caught in the middle between the fraudulent insurance adjuster and my landlord. By the way, the person's apartment who caused the flood? Oh, he's moved out. The jackleg adjuster needs to "verify" everything I tell him either with my landlord or ServPro about the extent of damages, condition of the apartment, what was "really damaged" (his words, not mine), etc. I have provided him with pictures, spreadsheets, everything he has asked for. Then for a reimbursement? $2,100 total. My 55" Sony TV, Sony Stereo System, mattress/boxspring, TV in the bedroom - $2,100 really? Then he says to ServPro that Homesite would reimburse me for the mattress and not the boxspring - have you ever heard of such a thing? I called him on this and once again I was questioned like a 5 year old liar. "Did the box spring really get damaged?" Well, yes, water has been known to travel through a mattress and through to the boxspring - by the way, the mattress/boxspring was 2 years old and like brand new condition, so there goes $1,000 of the $2,100 Homesite so graciously offered to reimburse me - what a joke. The remaining $1,100 will not cover a replacement tv of the quality I had (I have replacement value on my policy, by the way). Now that deal with that is as follows. He told me, go out and purchase a new tv, mattress/boxspring, etc and "If you can prove with your receipts that you spent more than the money we are reimbursing you, we will reimburse you up to an additional $683." Now keep in mind, I have not seen a thin dime from these people, they cheated me out of the value of my belongings which were damaged, are not reimbursing me for the food damaged in my apartment or my out of pocket food expenses, not ON TOP OF ALL OF THIS, if I want to replace my things with things like which were damaged (well, yeah, obviously), then "you pay for it and when we feel like it, we will reimburse you". Are...you...kidding...me? Then, they asked me for my account information to direct deposit my reimbursement of the $2,100 - that was Monday of this week. I called to ask them where the reimbursement was and they said, "Oh, since we did not hear from you after we left you a message, we sent out a check." I was told by the jackleg adjuster the check was cut on the 7th of November. This past Monday was the 11th so (1) you had no intention of direct depositing my reimbursement and (2) how are you going to kick me out of the hotel with no place to stay and no reimbursement, which means I would be sleeping on the floor (the rest of my furniture is in storage 25 miles away - whole other story with ServPro) if I COULD go back to my place. I am so freakin' frustrated with Homesite. I am filing a formal complaint with the Pennsylvania Department of Insurance -- these frauds need to deal with people honestly and fairly or be shut down permanently, Progressive and the other insurers should be ASHAMED to be affiliated with Homesite. Progressive (or Flo or the Flobot who ever the *** from the commercials) should be honest with their policyholders and inform them upfront their policy is being handled by a third party bunch of frauds.

Sounds like you documented expenses and problems on your end. Most insurance is state regulated so I would go to the state insurance regulators.

All insurance is a bet.

The customer is betting they will need it and the company is betting the customer won't need it. The company likes to play with house odds so they rig the game in their favor with fine print, exclusions, deductibles and false desperate need for their product. With something like renters insurance they are selling piece of mind.

In some respects any renter shouldn't have to buy renters insurance because the property owner should be responsible but I see their point because they might have a careless tenant but there are risks in any business as should any business prepare and deal with risk like providing fire extinguishers and smoke alarms along no or less flammable materials. But the real estate market has lobbied for legislation in their favor to the point where the renter must carry liability insurance for what happens in an apartment parking lot in many rents.

Also if you buy renters insurance which is actually voluntarily in many states you voluntarily give up your rights to sue and/or wait until the insurance process has taken it's full course including appeals before you can sue.

Also many companies reward call center employees for limiting payouts and claims along with customer service awards. I heard a statistic one time that if more the 20% of customers make a claim they can start losing money.

Renters insurance should be limited if not banned. And yes that would mean a renter would have to take a hit on occasion.

ATTENTION consumers of homeowner’s insurance with Homesite !!! CLASS ACTION:

I had a very negative experience with Homesite Insurance and with AIG/21st Century Insurance. We had long been customers of AIG getting our homeowners through them as well as car insurance, had storm damage on our old house and they paid with no problems. Then when we moved, and went to get homeowners like we always had, they got it for us, at the same price with the same deductible we’d been used to for years.

Last year, 2012, we had damage to our house from two storms that hit within months of each other, causing over $10,000 in damage to our roof, water damage, and structural damage to the roof and windows. 21st Century/Homesite claimed the damage done was due to wind damage and then said that wind damage had a deductible of 2% of the value of our home, which made it a lot of money. We said this is crazy, we have a $500 deductible, and the company has to cover the $10,000 in damage. But when we went to look at the policy language, hidden in there was a separate deductible for “wind damage” (not defined) with hidden and obscure language not giving a dollar figure but a 2% of value of the home per some formula that is not disclosed.

The AIG/21st Century agent and adjustor told us nothing about this change in all our prior policy experience with them. We know that others have had this inserted in their coverage without explaining or disclosing that they've done this. So, you think you are getting coverage for storms with a deductible of say $500 and then the damage happens with these many storms happening last year and it turns out the thousands of dollars in damage is not covered because of this hidden higher deductible that was not disclosed and something we never had before. They did not change the amount of premium and did not tell of this new Homesite product that deprives the consumer of a majority of the bargain because most storms have wind in them. We know that Geico, Progressive, and other major companies are also offering this virtually worthless Homesite product and passing it off as if you are covered for storm damage within your normal deductible only to find this hidden and deceptive additional Higher deductible that consumers are unaware of. This is outrageous fraud!

I have joined a class action against Homesite and AIG/21st Century (and other companies) and their corrupt practices.. Something must be done about this outrageous consumer fraud. These insurance companies are making billions off of normal middle class consumers like us who are victims of these massive storms in the last two years. We should be compensated for the money we have lost and all they have put us through!

If you are interested in joining a class action, email me at cab5053@***.com

!!! HOMESITE CARES OF YOUR PAYMENT ONLY !!!

Terrible experience with homesite insurance. They cancelled my policy and inform me about cancellation one month later.

My home was without any coverage, and not my fault. I was making payments on time. When I called to find out why the policy was cancelled Destiny (her name on the other side) told me I have to pay much more to renew the policy again.

They told me I didn't make the payment. More identical cases I found reading reviews.

They cancel your policy and when you asking to renew they increase your policy rate. Unbelievable.

I am switching to different company.
